Narrative Essay

In our literacy class this term, we had wrote an narrative essay about the Rite of Passage where it is talking about our becoming of age. This is the truth story of ourself, all of the experience that changes our life or thoughts of someone who we meet. My personal narrative essay is about the bond changing between me and my family after I left them for six years. In the essay, I tried my best to express my feeling in a writing form, in the story I mention about three body paragraphs that includes the question that my mother would ask me every single time that I went home, the time that my mother got her surgery, and the time that I feel I’m not a whole respectively. Our teacher, Cara, respect our story so she tried to teach us step by step to correct our essay. Everyday in class, she teaches on grammar rule and then she let us practice and then edit your essay at home; we learn about commas usage, parallel structures, vocabs development and more. I felt enthusiastic with this project, I learned a bunch of things that I don’t know about, but I feel better to express my feeling to the public.

“At the moment on the hammock, my mother was well, but as soon as I returned back to school, the family began to sink, my mom became ill and needed surgery. As I was sitting in my room at Liger, clicking away at my new computer, there was a sudden knock on the door with a harmful phrase that stated, “Visal, you have to go home now. Your mother just finished her surgery!” said one of the adult at my school. After hearing that news, the tears began to fall down like never before, and the enthusiasm of getting a new computer receded to a vanished point. I cried in silence where no one could see the tears, “Thank you for your informing me,” I replied with a soft and fake smile in front of the door at school.”

Animation Exploration

The beginning of the year, I chose to challenge myself in a skill that I was not good at, drawing. It was an animation exploration, I am very interested in animation. I tried for the past few years, to create an animation of my science book but I didn’t really have great success with it. In the exploration, our mentor pushed us to draw 20 pictures week. I was bored of drawing, but as we learn deeper and deeper I start to like drawing. From this experience, I learned that even though you think that the subject is not your type, but you just need to give it a try.

On September 09, 2017 we got an immense opportunity to visit IthinkAsia (one of the famous animation studio in Cambodia); it was a really powerful experience to see all the projects that they have done. A guy working for IthinkAsia is a really professional animator, he worked on different movies like the Kung Fu Panda 03. We got to meet people who experience with sound editing and other Cambodian animators. Personally, I feel really enjoyed with the trip and I learned more details in animation. On September 27, 2017, we went there again, that time was to learn about animation frame by frame animation. We used the computer that has a built-in tablet where we can draw by hand and it would print digitally. I created a mini animation of a bouncing ball and it looked really great to me. Sadly, I forgot to export my bouncing ball animation, but I still have a strong experience learning at there.

I’m looking at the back of the big screen!
IthinkAsia tough us about the animations!
This is the discussion about the future plan!

Internship at Arrowdot at Summer Break

In the summer break this year, August to September, I had spent 4 weeks to do an internship at an electronic and engineering startup calls Arrowdot at Phnom Penh. There were three other students from Liger who did the internship, the four of us worked very hard in this internship. We did the internship voluntary without them paying us. What we did was we went to help set up their class (since they teach the student every day), create PCB, making drones, and help their students about electronics. I found out that was a real opportunity for me to manage my time, budget, and transportation. I lived with my aunt’s house and every day at lunch I have to find the food store near the place where I had my internship. I got some money from my mom, so I have to manage my budget really well or else I don’t have lunch to eat. From this internship, I got a chance to dig into a very advanced electronic circuit and advance coding plus engineering. The funny part from that was to cut the PCB board using the CNC machine, I got really scared of doing that but I still tried my best to do it. By doing this, it opened me to a variety of inputs which led me to do a TED TALK about the ICT field in Cambodia.

Arrowdot Internship

Arrodot also provided us a training class for six months to learn about the basic and advance idea of the electronics and engineer. I got to meet a lot of new friends from this internship, I got a lot of university friends and teachers. I had a really strong hope to do more internship in different NGOs or Companies in this country.
