Gender Submit

Gender Walk.

In our literacy class, we learn about gender! The final result of list lesson is to write a news article about gender. My topic is about the insulting word call “Bitch”. I have a concern why this word is so popular in current world; personally, I think this word bring women’s value to the ground very hard.

I went to do some research on the web and interview people at the riverside at Phnom Penh, Cambodia. There were a lot of responses, both good and bad, to this topic. There were plenty of challenges to me in doing this project: One, is the time, our facilitator helped to push us this project because she needs this for the Exploration project. Second is the structure, I found out that it was very hard for me to write a news article (since that was my first time). As a result, I end up finishing the project on time with my friend helped to edit.

Students from different schools.

Moreover, Liger hosted an event called “Gender Submit” and I also participate in that event. That was a very great event for me to get in-depth about gender, so I can use this idea and help to distribute to people in my village. I think that gender equity is one of the main issues where people in this country don’t really think about it. Men were more educated than women, while women were more likely to leave work after giving birth.

These are the problems, participating in “Gender Submit” provides me stronger ideas of how we make changes in my country. I was very excited to have other students from a different type of schools to join this event. I have a dream that every school in the world should have this event once a year as a door for children to see the real world because this is not a women issue, it’s human rights issue.

Word of the Day: Manipulation

Every day in English literacy class, our first to do list is the word of the day. In order to become better in English, our facilitator is also improving our vocabulary skills. So one of the words is called manipulation that means, handle or control in a skillful manner; control or influence a person or situation in a clever exploitative manner.

My example is: For my experience, if we get so interest in something people can easily manipulate on you, so you can their product or service.

Most of the day when I’m free I listen to this National Podcast Radio (NPR) of TEDx and one of the topics that interest me is manipulation. In the topic of manipulation, there is a podcast of Tristan Harris: Do Our Devices Control More Than We Think? This is a really cool podcast that talks about how big company like Facebook, Google, Instagram, and Snapchat uses us. It shocked me when Harris give us an example of Snapchat, this application is the number one way that teenagers in America communicate. Harris said, SnapChat also creates a system call Snapstreak where it shows the number of streaks that people communicate. So if a person got streaks they don’t want to lose that streak so every day they just post and post and it’s like dragging them in. This is a really amazing news for me!

Nefarious Writing Halloween

Today in a literacy class, we were working on writing a nefarious writing for the Halloween. Halloween is not our culture, but why not to learn some from westerns. The activity was simple, in our class, we divided into two teams and everyone will start with a topic of Halloween and after a minute and 30 seconds, we have to pass the paper to another person to continue the story. For us, we keep continuing the story from our friend. In this activity, I found it was entertaining because I got have a chance to see what other people writing styles, and tried to understand their topic. So for me, the story was a bit creative with all of my friends writing, and it is really interesting that in my group all of us understand the main purpose of the story.

The music came on plus there was cakes and drinks. I scooped some cake and putted it my mouth. “This smells gross, and slimy!” I cried every loud. I looked down and there were blood gushing out of the cake. I instantly threw the cake across the room. The cake changed into a monster. It came slowly toward me. I walked backward and unfortunately I tripped over. I tried to get up as quick as possible but before I could even get up, the monster grabbed my neck. This time there nothing I can do, I couldn’t even breath my lungs were tight, I tried to use all of my energy to fight back but I couldn’t. I knew I was gonna die in a few seconds. But then, I heard my dog sound coming and barking at the monster. The dog started to big the monster, and suddenly, my friends come and wake me up with their monster faces. Haha!

Narrative Essay

In our literacy class this term, we had wrote an narrative essay about the Rite of Passage where it is talking about our becoming of age. This is the truth story of ourself, all of the experience that changes our life or thoughts of someone who we meet. My personal narrative essay is about the bond changing between me and my family after I left them for six years. In the essay, I tried my best to express my feeling in a writing form, in the story I mention about three body paragraphs that includes the question that my mother would ask me every single time that I went home, the time that my mother got her surgery, and the time that I feel I’m not a whole respectively. Our teacher, Cara, respect our story so she tried to teach us step by step to correct our essay. Everyday in class, she teaches on grammar rule and then she let us practice and then edit your essay at home; we learn about commas usage, parallel structures, vocabs development and more. I felt enthusiastic with this project, I learned a bunch of things that I don’t know about, but I feel better to express my feeling to the public.

“At the moment on the hammock, my mother was well, but as soon as I returned back to school, the family began to sink, my mom became ill and needed surgery. As I was sitting in my room at Liger, clicking away at my new computer, there was a sudden knock on the door with a harmful phrase that stated, “Visal, you have to go home now. Your mother just finished her surgery!” said one of the adult at my school. After hearing that news, the tears began to fall down like never before, and the enthusiasm of getting a new computer receded to a vanished point. I cried in silence where no one could see the tears, “Thank you for your informing me,” I replied with a soft and fake smile in front of the door at school.”

ISPPMUN 2016

This year of Liger (fifth year), I was participated in the event call ISPPMUN 2016. Last year I was also paticipated in this event too, and I was the delegate of Luxembourg, but in the ISPPMUN 2016 I was the delegate of the United Kingdom. I felt really pround that I join this event because it helps me to become more brave with debating and communicate with other people. So my message is that, if you are one of the people that use to scare and shy please join different events like this MUN.

The Policy statment:

Welcome delegates from all over the world, and good afternoon ISPP chairs.

The delegate of the United Kingdom is excited to be a part of this conference. We have some very important issues to discuss over the next few days and hopefully we can come up with some agreements.  In 2013, the UK donated 35 million dollars to the World Food Project to fight hunger in Africa. We feel it is very important to find creative solutions to the problem of hunger in the world.  In terms of returning cultural artefacts to the country of origin,  The United Kingdom has the Rosetta Stone from Egypt at the British Museum plus many other artifacts, and they all very well preserved and protected, so we understand the importance of preserving cultural objects. We also are strong believers in protecting the environment and deforestation in Southeast Asia will have impact on the entire planet.  Let’s work together to create and pass some realistic resolutions. Thank you!

The question of deforestation in South-East Asia

The question of returning cultural artefacts to the country of origin

The question of feeding the world’s growing billions

The Resolution:

FORUM: JUNIOR GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2

QUESTION OF:  Feeding the World’s Growing Billions

SUBMITTED BY: United Kingdom

The Junior General Assembly 2,

Realizing that one-third of worldwide food produced is worth around 1 trillion dollars and is wasted or gets thrown away every year,

Keeping in mind that a flood hit the UK in 2007 and destroyed farmers land approximately 42  thousand hectares worth £89.5 thousand pounds,

Having considered that by 2030, the temperature in North America and Africa will increase by 2% and the rainfall will be 10% less,

Noting with appreciation the WFP (World Food Project) created a program of community food production,

  1. Proposes strict laws (like France) to ban the throwing away of expired fruits and vegetables;
  2. Proclaims all nations should research the use of products or objects that provide people more nutrition like  Lucky Iron Fish, or Insect flour;

Encourages teachers to teach about the food shock so they can know about the food crisis that we are facing now and in the future.

I am from Kampong Chhnang in Cambodia

My province is peaceful and lots of fun

There are fun posts in Facebook media

People there like to play and sometimes run

At Khmer new year we love to play powder

In morning we go to the pagoda

To give food to monks and my ancestors

I usually go there with my mama

I like to play Kla Klok with my aunty

Family traditional food is Chap Chai

Chap Chai is not really similar to curry

In pagoda we forbidden to lie

Kampong Chhnang is my most favorite region

Although they don’t have desalination

At that time I was presenting about Khmer and English literacy. For the first presentation I felt extremely anxious because I my first time that I presented to the high educated people. But the second and the rest I started to felt normal, in this presentation I had received plenty of comments that are really good for developing my education.

1. Who is Jemima and what happened to her?

Jemima is the rabbit that the dragon had swallowed.

2. Choose three and tell me what they mean in your own words: (3) looking very pleased

 (5) fetch him: come and collect the dragon   (8) the loo: the bathroom   (9) being at the end of your tether

 (18) kidnapped: the bad people/person that capture the gentle people/person

What Eddie learned on the internet is: the dragon devours the coal and it likes to eat the women that are young and unmarried (damsel).

The dragon had made a lot of problems in Eddie’s house like, the fridge door had a hole, the carpet was stained with the dragon poo, and the curtains had blazed.

I think Uncle Morton went to the beach.[/wr_item_tab][wr_item_tab heading=”Comprehension Check 2″ disabled_el=”no” ]Comprehension Check

1. When Eddie calls the dragon “poor” and “defenceless,” what does that mean? Do you think it’s true?

When Eddie calls the dragon “poor” and ”defenceless,” his objective is to show that the dragon is weak. I don’t think the dragon is defenceless.

2. Choose three and tell me what they mean in your own words: (23) pram

When the dragon was snoozing Tigger and Maud came into Eddie’s region and then unluckily the dragon woke up and saw them walking around in front of their yard. So the dragon came and attacked Tigger, and Maud got caught by the dragon’s jaws, but Maud is really intelligent so he turned around and scratched the dragon’s face. So the dragon was hurting, and so it was the enormous opportunity for Maud to get out of the dragon’s jaws.

1. Why does it look like the kids won’t be getting any lunch?
It looks like the kids won’t be getting any lunch for a temporary time because the dragon was in the kitchen. Even Eddie says some bad words to the dragon, and the dragon still stays as cool as a cucumber.

2. Tell me what the dragon does in the kitchen in your own words.

When the dragon was in the kitchen, he got his ball rolling by doing plenty of unnecessary things like damaging all of the food in the kitchen.

3. What are some of the benefits to giving the dragon chocolate? What are some disadvantages?

The benefits of giving the chocolate to the dragon is making him behave better. The disadvantage is, the dragon becomes a fat dragon.

4. Why isn’t Cupcake a suitable name for a dragon? What would you name a pet dragon? Why?

Cupcake isn’t a suitable name for a dragon because the dragon is not a snack. You know, over the past two years I ruined my brother’s dragon toy and that toy was named NaNek. So he always cried over the spilled milk to me to buy the new dragon toy for him. So if I had a dragon I would name it NaNek.[/wr_item_tab][/wr_tab][/wr_column][/wr_row]

My weakness/strength of Liger Changing Agents Characteristic

All students in the world have their own strength and their own weakness. Example me, so let’s me tell you about my weakness and my strength.

My two weakness is:

Networker: means making the connection with other people that you don’t know and people that you know in business way. You know why my weakness is networker? I’m not a good networker because I’m scare of people. Other thing that make me not a good networker because I don’t know what to speak to with other people and don’t know how to follow up the questions. Example: with people that I need to interview and telling about my product. I want to improve on it.

Competitive: means try to be the best of yourself and try to win something. You know why my second weakness is competitive. My weakness is competitive because I feel mud to myself and always think “I’m not going to win them”. Example when I have competition with my friend, and when they win me I always give up and don’t want to have competition with them again.

Problem Solvers: means when faced with challenge, problem solver don’t give up. I think my strength is Problem Solvers because most of facilitators said that I always helped people that have technology problem. That is my facilitators think, what I think about my strength is…

→ At the third years of Liger I had faced one problem while I’m tried to fix old computers. That problem was the computer exploded, at that time I really scared and then I found the answer why the computer exploded. Then I also found where is the problem, and the problem is the power supply. Then easy I just change the power supply. At the end the computer was fixed and it worked well.

Proactive: means taking an initiative. My strength is proactive because I’m boy that want to get something done even I have a trip or other exception that make me can not go to school. Example at fourth of the Liger at the Phnong Exploration, we had a trip to Mondulkiri for five days. When I came back I didn’t know about what going on at Liger. So I asked some students that had class with me that not went to Mondulkiri about all the homework that teacher putted. Then I did most of the homework and some of the homework I didn’t finished because of time.
